This year when you plant your vegetable garden, why not plant an extra row to donate to Plant a Row, Grow a Row? We'll take the produce to the Food Bank so that families in need in our community can put healthy fresh food on their tables.
Want to learn more? Join us at the 10th annual Spring Gardeners' Party on March 18th. Well known local experts will give you valuable tips on growing fruit and vegetables. There will be coffee, tea, and goodies, as well as some fun give-aways, including something special from Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics for those roughened gardening hands!
The event kicks off at 6 pm at St. Thomas More Collegiate, located at 7450 12th Street in Burnaby, just over the Burnaby/New Westminster border.
Brian Minter, national spokesperson for Plant a Row Grow a Row, and always an inspiring speaker, will start the evening. Joining him will be Daniel Mosqin and Ingrid Hoff from the UBC Botanical Garden, Conway Lum from GardenWorks Mandeville, Mark Macdonald of Westcoast seeds.... and more.
The evening will be hosted by Claude LeDoux, the coordinator of the local programme, and by members of the St. Thomas More community.
Growing food is this year's hot horticultural trend, and it's a great family activity, especially when you can help kids learn about the imortance of helping others at the same time. You can grow vegetables and fruits in containers, in with your perennials, or in your own backyard plot. You can even grow Tumbler tomatoes or strawberries in a hanging basket!
So please join us March 18th at 6 pm at St Thomas More Collegiate (7450 12th St., Burnaby) to find out more. Admission is free, but we would appreciate the donation of non-perishable food for the Food Bank. See you there!
