Passport To Education

The government of British Columbia has a program design to reward a limited number of students in grades 10-12 (17% per grade level) by giving them credit towards the cost of tuition at many post-secondary institutions. All students’ passports are kept in the school office until they finish school, at which time they may be collected. The credit is recorded each year in a “Passport Booklet” provided by the government according to the following schedule:

  • Grade 10 - $250
  • Grade 11 - $250
  • Grade 12 - $500

At Saint Thomas More Collegiate, the criteria are as follows for grades 10 to 12 to qualify for Passport To Education:

  • (1) The student’s GPA counts for 90% of the calculation
  • (2) Student involvement in three or more activities counts for 10% of the calculation

Note:

  • (1) The three activities can be activities within or outside the school. However, if you wish to count outside activities (e.g. dance, hockey etc.) you need to present confirming documentation of your involvement to the principal. For inside activities, be sure that you have double checked the lists that are published each May posted in the front foyer to ensure they are accurate. If you are unsure of whether an activity qualifies please ask the principal for confirmation.
  • (2) All students from grades 10-12 are required to make an application for Passport To Education. This application form will take 5 minutes to fill out and will be distributed through the Academic Counseling Office. We believe this will serve as a further triple check to ensure that all information on the student is accurately recorded.
